The Academically Gifted and Talented Program provides differentiated, inquiry-based, and authentic educational experiences commensurate with the interests, abilities, and needs of the gifted and talented learner.

Who are the gifted and talented?

Students who are identified as possessing a demonstrated or potential ability to perform at an exceptionally high level in any of the five areas of giftedness: general intellectual aptitude, specific academic aptitude, creative or divergent thinking, psychosocial or leadership skills, or skills in the visual or performing arts.

How are the gifted and talented identified?

Gifted students are identified through their outstanding intellectual capabilities, academic aptitudes, and/or creative abilities. Students in grades one through five are administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the fall. Students must have a score of 24 or higher to qualify as gifted. Advance Program students must have a score of 21 to 23. These students are identified by their general intellectual ability, specific academic aptitude, divergent thinking, psychosocial or leadership skills, and/or skills in the visual or performing arts.

A combination of informal assessments is used to determine placement in the Primary Academic Talent Pool (grades one through three). Formal identification of students in grades four and five includes a combination of formal and informal measures, specific to the five categories of giftedness.

• # Students: The # of students participating in the Gifted and Talented program, grouped by Race and Gender.
• % G/T: The % of students participating in the Gifted and Talented program, grouped by Race and Gender. Calculated as # of students participating divided by total # of students enrolled at the school in that race or gender.

The Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum, developed by the College Board in partnership with university professors, culminates in a qualifying exam. AP courses are considered college-equivalent, and scores on the exams given in the spring may be accepted at many colleges and universities for credit.

Column Definitions:

• Enrollment #: The # of students enrolled as of October 1 that fall into this demographic.
• Enrollment %: The % of students enrolled as of October 1 that fall into this demographic.
• # Tested: The # of students in this demographic that were tested for AP Placement.
• % of All Tested: The % of students in this demographic that were tested for AP Placement versus all students tested.
• % Tested Scored 3-5: Amongst the students in this demographic that were tested, the % of those students that scored between a 3 and 5, meeting the test criteria to enter the Advanced Program.

Dual credit and dual enrollment refer to college and high school credit earned simultaneously for the same course. Students can earn dual credit on the high school campus through partnerships with a postsecondary institution when specific faculty criteria are met. There may also be an opportunity to earn credit on the college campus. Opportunities vary, so students should check with their guidance counselor for details. Tuition and/or administrative fees apply. All high schools offer some form of dual-credit or dual-enrollment opportunities.

Column Definitions:

• Free/Reduced Lunch: Community Eligibility (CE) offers students in high-poverty areas an opportunity to receive meals at no charge. For more information, please visit the JCPS Free & Reduced-Price Meal Program website.
• Paid Lunch: Students not receiving CE assistance. Meal prices vary by meal and location and are generally between $1.75 and $2.90 a meal.
